Day 19:: Thyroid Levels/ Yum Yum is my Thumb Thumb/Tummy Time

::Thyroid Levels::
If you have a baby with Down syndrome, you probably have heard of them having thyroid problems. As a result, they will test them every 6 months until they are 2 years old to make sure everything is normal. Giselle's first test has come back with flying colors! But if not, don't worry. They test so they can start medicine. She would have to be on medicine for the rest of her life, but that's a small price to pay.  When a baby has problems with their thyroids and the brain is still developing, it can cause a loss in IQ points.  Seeing as the range for Down Syndrome is usually between 50-90 points on average, we don't want that do we?  We are also having her CBC checked. It's a complete blood cell count to watch out for leukemia. Catching all of this early is a great way to prevent tons of complications in the future so I'm just sucking it up and letting them poke her.

::Yum Yum is my Thumb Thumb::
So today baby Giselle has officially figured out her hand can in fact go into her mouth! Lol. I'm not advocating thumb sucking so all day I wait to catch her.  She hasn't quite figured out her thumb, but if her hand or arm is close to her mouth, she tries to suck on it.  It's very funny.

::Tummy Time Update::
In other news, she is getting better at lifting her head off the play mat using momentum and turning it to the other side.  I gotta watch her cause she sometimes gets stuck face down, but I'm hoping this is good news as far as neck strength.  She still kicks both legs all over the place.

I finally learned that napping while she naps is the greatest ever.  I didn't want to at first because all I wanted to do was sit there and stare at her, or try and clean around the house. But I got so burnt out, night feedings were becoming harder and harder.  Last night I almost leaned over to my husband and told him to go make a bottle of formula for her.  I feel guilty about wishing that today so I took a 2 hour nap with her and I feel so much better.  Might take another one later lol.

On a small side not I feel very foolish.  Took her to the pediatricians because she wasn't eating as long (as you probably read in my other post). Well...I was smothering her lol! Her nose was always almost completely covered by my breast because I would try to multitask and watch TV or play on the computer while feeding her, so she couldn't breathe and got tuckered out before she was finished eating.  I'm glad I've known my doctor for years or else this would have been extremely embarrassing.  Now I try to just focus on the task at hand.

Lesson of the Day:: Don't Be Too Proud

Ask for help. When daddy or whoever comes home from work, hand the baby over.  Go take a shower, grab a snack and a book, and lay in bed. Well these work for me but you get what I'm saying.  Go take a few hours while he enjoys one on one time.  And don't worry about the baby. He will be fine with the baby.  If anything I noticed the boys are more careful than I am.  And then he just comes and wakes me up when she gets fussy to eat.  I usually get a nice either 2-3 hour nap or at least some time to myself. It's amazing.
